    Description

Virgin Cola Tank  Rare Collectible .
This is a very rare Virgin Cola collectible with a unique background.  In 1994 Richard Branson, owner of the Virgin Empire, decided it was time to go up against  Coke and Pepsi who dominated the soft drink empires in the world.   He decided to brew his own beverages in different flavors and by 1998 was ready to launch it. Virgin Drinks was born.
Never one to be shy about marketing himself or his products, Richard decided to get Times Square blocked off for a huge publicity stunt to introduce his new product on May 12, 1998. .  He "drove"  an actual  working (but decommissioned) Sherman Tank through Times Square and vowed to "blow Coke and Pepsi out of the market".  To further advertise the upcoming event, invitations were sent to media around the world in many ways, but a select few got a tank in the mail with an invitation rolled up in the barrel of the gun on the wire tank to come to the event, and of course, the party afterwards.
For several years Virgin Drinks made inroads into the beverage market but as Richard Branson would later report in an interview,  he realized Coke was making huge efforts to drive Virgin Cola out of the supermarkets by offering huge discounts to retailers to carry only their product.  His suspicions were further confirmed after he decided to shut down the Virgin Drinks empire.  He was invited to a dinner with a LLoyds Bank executive, who previously worked for Coke Cola.  She revealed the truth to him, that yes, she was party to Coke's efforts to remove the upstart Virgin Cola from the market.  Virgin Drinks shut down forever in 2001.
